The Notting Hill Shopping Bag™️ was born in 2009, when local resident, entrepreneur and creative visionary Natasha (Tash) Courtenay-Smith set out to create a stylish, reusable alternative to the single-use plastic bag. Her vision was simple: to design a practical, durable and beautifully recognisable bag that reflected the character, creativity and charm of Notting Hill.

In 2017, Natasha Courtenay-Smith sold The Notting Hill Shopping Bag™️ business to Canbolat An. Sharing a passion for the neighbourhood and its unique culture, Canbolat embraced the opportunity to build upon the brand’s remarkable foundations while preserving everything that had made it so special.

Today, The Notting Hill Shopping Bag™️ is proudly owned and operated by Canbolat An from our destination shops on the world-famous Portobello Road.

What began as a simple market bag sold on Portobello Road has grown into one of Britain’s most recognisable reusable tote bags. Under Canbolat An’s leadership, the collection has expanded to include hundreds of original designs, colours and limited editions, with the bags now carried by Londoners, visitors and collectors in countries around the world. While the collection has evolved, its purpose has remained unchanged—to capture and celebrate the unmistakable spirit of Notting Hill.

Natasha (Tash) Courtenay-Smith continues to contribute to the brand as Head of Brand & Partnerships, helping shape its creative vision, collaborations and storytelling .
